As an artist I use myself a lot. I am a figurative painter intrigued by the potential for a painting to capture, and hold, the sense of something meaningful. Transience and memory; impulse; vulnerability; frailty and fragility. My paintings consider that which I know.
In the process of figuration I often turn to self-portraiture; it is a recurrent theme and something I use to explore that which we share. As well as the individual, the personal, the paintings I make relate the familiar; they consider aspects of our human nature and the human experience that connect us all.

Having initially trained as a pharmacist, my experience in healthcare and medicine has influenced my art practice greatly. In the health service we are taught a patient centred approach; to use compassion and empathy in our search for diagnosis or treatment. My approach to painting explores this same humanity; it explores this same commonality and this same, innate, sensitivity towards a common understanding.
